In bad scientist news, the Korean researcher who wrote the paper demonstrating effective therapeutic cloning in humans for the first time appears to have
falsified. At first it sounded like an error with Sciencemag itself, accidentally copying pictures of ES cell colonies rather than having pictures of the individual lines cloned. Now it sounds like he stole the lines from another researcher, then destroyed them, claiming they had become infected with a virus.
Well, he'll never be allowed to publish again. That's the nice thing about science. Gigantic screw-ups do occur. However, rather than just saying,
"I take full responsibility" and having
nothing happen to you, you are blacklisted for your lies for life. This researcher, Hwang, will never be allowed to publish again. If only, if only, politics were anything like science. Taking responsibility might actually mean something.
