Slate has a wonderful article on
the architectural mistakes of McMansions.I knew I hated them, I just wasn't sure quite why. I always found them ugly, oppressive, and tacky, but I didn't have the architectural knowledge to understand what it was about them that created my gestalt response.
It turns out that they're just ugly because of their architecture, not just because I hate the people that live in them.
