The word is, the creator is no longer interested in the series and believes it reached an appropriate conclusion. Despite interest from Showtime and ABC, Arrested Development will not return.

It was the right choice. At least the series was given a chance to conclude properly, and it did: all plotlines wrapped up and all character arcs settled. I was afraid that a new story arc would seem superfluous, and would ruin the balance that the ending brought.
I'd rather look forward to seeing what Hurwitz can do next, rather than risk seeing a show I loved limp on far, far past its prime (see: The Simpsons).

True, we may consider ourselves lucky the series was never allowed to jump the shark.
