So, how's that gay marriage ban working out?
The NYT suggests that it's problematic for moderate Republicans while polling suggests voters are more interested in the Iraq war, oil, immigrants, the economy, etc. All of which are issues on which the administration is just a train wreck in slow motion in dealing with. Dow 10,000 anyone?

Hopefully Bush will keep up the good work and we'll see a nice failure of unadulturated conservatism. Picking on gays while the house is burning might just go down as the worst example of do-nothingness since Buchanan before the Civil War. I personally think he's trying to unseat Buchanan as worst president ever.

And did anyone hear about Anne Coulter attacking 9/11 widows on the Today Show? I think The Grit has it right, you lose just by inviting this insane woman on your show. Apparently her book is pro-creationism too as discussed by PZ at Pharyngula. The crazy bat is now coming out against Darwinism as anti-religious leftist propaganda. I guess no one told George Will (or we accidentally put him on our super-secret liberal conspiracy mailing list). I don't know, is even talking about this woman a mistake? Giving up would suggest she should be held up for mockery, but she's just too bizarre and over-the-top to even really be used to mock conservatives. That and she always has that weird look in her eyes. I can't quite put my finger on it, but she always looks a little panicked, like she's just been caught at a crime scene with a gun in her hands and is trying to explain to a cop why she's there and no she didn't kill that prostitute in her trunk. Then again, some people think she's witty. I fail to see the humor in someone who regularly proposes that I should be killed for my beliefs, and the only problem with Tim McVeigh is he didn't park his truck in front of the New York Times building. What is the proper give up solution to this woman? Does talking about her keep her alive like some pundit version of Tinkerbell?

That’s a tough one. On the one hand Ann Coulter is obviously disturbed. A lot of her persona makes me think of someone who was sexually abused as a child. On the other hand she was on NBC’s “Today” show when she said the widows of 9/11 are enjoying their husband’s deaths.

As long as the mainstream media is going to periodically trot her out like some kind of political sideshow freak, I suppose it doesn’t hurt to help people connect the dots between her and mainstream Republicans. Fortunately she’s so disgusting that she doesn’t require a lot of structured rebuttal: either you see her as a freak or you don’t, and there are probably few people who have crossed that divide after a first impression. Overall I think she’s far more damaging to the GOP than to anyone else, which makes her an asset to the Give Up philosophy. Mock away!
