Lieberman shows his true colors as a dirty traitor
Lieberman has indicated that if he loses his August primary he will run as an independent. Some Democrat. It's a perfect trifecta of no party loyalty, an obsession with staying in power no matter what the cost, and arrogance that the voters shouldn't decide who represents their party.

How could anyone have ever thought he was a Democrat? Why the hell did Gore choose this guy as his running mate? He was the first Democrat to turn on Clinton, the first to support Bush on every possible issue, and the first to sell out Democrats whenever they stood up to Republicans.

Now, when he loses the primary he'll show he's not a Democrat and refuse to support the candidate that Democrats decided to elect to the Senate, instead he's decided he's the only one who should represent Connecticut in the Senate, no matter what the Democratic voters decide. Lieberman is no longer even a Democrat in name only, he is officially a Republican.

Oh my god. Did we just get a comment from a Lieberman supporter? I didn't think they actually existed.

He's a Republican because he agrees with the president more than with Democrats. He's a Republican because he's on Fox news all the time criticizing his party to the glee of the right-wingers. He's a Republican because the only people defending him right now are Republicans, like David Brooks and the WSJ.

Being a Democrat doesn't mean believing in abortion rights (Reid, the minority leader doesn't), it doesn't mean supporting gay marriage, or any of the major divisive issues on which even many democrats are split. But it does require a modicum of loyalty to your party. Lieberman actively attacks his party, has done it for years, most notably during the Clinton impeachment, most recently in defense of Bush's war, or whatever social policy Bush advocates, like social security privatization. He hasn't really been on our side since 1998, not to mention, he was probably the worst choice for VP candidate ever. What state did he carry for Gore again?
